Notes on books are books with notes. When I think of notebooks, I think of a place where the seven- and the twenty-four-year-old me lie face down, absorbed in the pages as time quietly slips by. As these books have taken and given in mutual exchange over the years, they have themselves become dear friends and trusted companions along the way. In a world where one is constantly looking for the next big thing—the stroke we haven’t seen and the image yet to be found—David Foster Wallace might have been right in saying that our endless and impossible journey toward home is, in fact, our home—and that the thing we were so eagerly looking for might have been here all along.
As the architectural rhythm of eight cubic meters mimics the rhythm of flipping through a notebook, windows turn into book spreads, and the private becomes public.
Fadri Brunner is studying at the Fine Arts department, and was selected through the call for applications this academic year.
