Way too often I have the feeling of being watched, not necessarily by someone specific, but by some sort of entity, or audience, like I’m constantly playing on a stage, even if the performance takes place in the solitude of my home. When cooking, when reading a book, when cleaning, when brushing my teeth, when walking down the hall, when sitting all alone in my room. My daily routine becomes a performance within itself, one that I somehow find enjoyment in. The observing eye becomes my faithful audience, never leaving me, not even in the most mundane of moments, not even when I decide to play someone else.
So, I became “someone elses”, and now ask you to look through the little hole on the window, watching as I stage my day to day and perform (my) femininity. How often do we catch ourselves peeking into peoples’ houses as we walk past? Well, I’m now purposefully and shamelessly inviting you to do so. So, please look at me, while I play whoever they expect me to be.
